About
Chronic Abdominal Discomfort Syndrome (CADS) represents a newly defined clinical entity characterized by persistent abdominal pain without clear structural pathology yet associated with visceral afferent sensitization and central modulation dysfunction. Neuromodulation - targeting DRG (T11-L2), splanchnic nerves, and celiac plexus pathways -offers a promising therapeutic strategy for select phenotypes. However, standardized patient selection, programming strategies, and long-term durability data remain limited. This session provides a structured, phenotype-based approach to visceral neuromodulation.

Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Nick Knezevic, MD, PhD, is the Vice Chair for Research at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago. He is the current President of the Illinois Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Professor Knezevic has published more than 230 peer-reviewed scientific articles, cited more than 10,000 times (h-index 51). He was ranked among the TOP 2% of scientists in the world by the Stanford University – Elsevier list for 2025. He is a member of the Editorial Board of multiple anesthesia and pain journals. He is also a recognized lecturer worldwide and has delivered over 350 invited lectures and keynote speeches at national and international conferences. Dr. Knezevic received multiple recognitions and excellence awards for patient care, teaching, outstanding research, and academic achievements.

He is President & CEO of Kansas Pain Management and Neuroscience Research Center. He is also President of Kansas Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (KSIPP), Adjunct Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Kansas City University and Director-at-Large, Board of Directors, ASIPP. Dr. Gupta has 15 years' experience in interventional pain management, and is one of the country’s leading experts in neuromodulation and minimally invasive spine care. His outpatient practice serves six locations in the Kansas City metropolitan and surrounding areas. Hospital Affiliations include Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, and AdventHealth Hospital.
