About
Neuromodulation is moving from a single-device "one target, one therapy" model to an integrated approach where SCS, DRG stimulation, and PNS are selected and combined based on pain phenotype, coverage needs, and durability goals. This panel will examine how and when to deploy multimodal neuromodulation strategies in chronic pain, the evidence supporting component modalities, and how closed-loop/adaptive systems and programming approaches may reduce failures and reinterventions. The discussion will emphasize practical clinical algorithms, evidence gaps, and real-world outcomes needed to support broader adoption.

Dr. Dalia H. Elmofty is double board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and is an associate professor and the program director of the pain fellowship at the University of Chicago. She is a member of the Annual Meeting Oversight Committee (AMOC) and the chair of the Educational Track Subcommittee on Pain Medicine for the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). She is the chair for the Women in Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (WRAPM) Special interest group (SIG), ad hoc member for newsletter committee, and a member of the faculty development committee for the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA Pain Medicine). She is a member of the scientific planning committee,education committee, and newsletter committee for the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS). She is the president of the Midwest Pain Society (MPS). She has presented at local, regional, and national meetings. She has published several book chapters and manuscripts.

Michael D. Staudt, MD MSc is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. He graduated from Western University in London, Ontario, Canada, where he also received his Master’s degree in Neurobiology and his Medical Degree. He then continued his neurosurgical residency at London Health Sciences Centre, during which time he completed an enfolded fellowship in Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery at UH Cleveland Medical Center, followed by a post-graduate fellowship at Albany Medical Center.
He is the Director of Epilepsy Surgery, and the Co-Director of Pain Surgery and Neuromodulation. He holds the George R. and Constance P. Lincoln Endowed Chair in Brain Health. His clinical practice primarily includes the surgical treatment of pain, epilepsy, brain tumors, and movement disorders. He has particular expertise in adult and pediatric neuromodulation.
Dr. Staudt serves on the Board of Directors for the North American Neuromodulation Society as Secretary, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons as a Member-at-Large, and the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Pain as a Member-at-Large. He also serves on the AANS/CNS Joint Guidelines Review Committee, and is the Pain Section Guideline Chair.
