About
Advances in computational neuroscience, connectomics, brain-computer interfaces, and systems-level understanding of brain function are rapidly changing the landscape of neuromodulation beyond symptom control to precision-guided interventions with the purpose to identify neural biomarkers, map functional brain networks, restore neurological function, and explore the fundamental mechanisms underlying consciousness itself. This plenary session brings together internationally recognized leaders who are redefining the future of neuromodulation across the nervous system. These perspectives will provide a roadmap for the next generation of neuromodulation therapies, where network-level understanding and adaptive technologies converge to deliver more precise, effective, and transformative patient care.

Rushna Ali, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon with expertise in all salient aspects of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. This includes advanced surgical treatments to treat chronic and cancer-related pain, facial pain and other neuralgias, movement disorders, stroke rehabilitation and recovery, as well as surgical management of epilepsy. Dr. Ali earned her medical degree from Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed neurosurgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and her Stereotactic, Functional, Pain and Epilepsy surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is an Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery at Mayo Clinic, Rochester.

Dr. Ellen Air graduated from Northwestern University (1997) and completed her doctorate (2002) and medical degree (2004) at University of Cincinnati. She then completed her residency in Neurological Surgery at the University of Cincinnati in 2010 and fellowship in the neurosurgical treatment of epilepsy, movement disorders and pain at the University of California, San Francisco, in 2011. She is currently Chair of Neurosurgery and Co-Medical Director for the Neuroscience Service Line at Henry Ford Health in Detroit. In addition, she holds the Mark L. Rosenblum Endowed Chair and is Clinical Associate Professor at both Michigan State University and Wayne State University School of Medicine. She serves on the executive boards of ASSFN and North American Neuromodulation Society.
