About
Neuromodulation training across Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited programs remains highly variable, with limited procedural standardization and competency assessment. While the ACGME outlines general educational milestones, these requirements often lack procedural specificity for neuromodulation techniques, resulting in variable trainee competency. This session critically evaluates existing ACGME training requirements for spinal cord stimulation (SCS), intrathecal drug delivery (IDDS), peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS), and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) and compares them with the NANS Education Committee's evidence-based curricula. The session will also discuss future directions, including post-graduate certification pathways, competency verification, and the growing influence of payer expectations on formal neuromodulation training standards.

Megan Filoramo is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner at Fortera Health in New Jersey with more than 26 years of experience in interventional pain management. She specializes in comprehensive chronic pain care, including medication management, multimodal approaches, interventional procedures, and neuromodulation selection and education.
Megan is committed to advancing pain management through clinical leadership, education, and professional collaboration. She serves as Secretary of the American Chronic Pain Association and has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (ASPMN). She is Lead Master Faculty for Advanced Pharmacology for ASPMN, Co-Chair of the Pain Management Specialty Practice Group for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and a member of the NANS Advanced Practice Provider Group. She is passionate about advancing the role of APPs in pain medicine and promoting their leadership within multidisciplinary pain care.
Megan holds board certifications as a Pain Management Nurse, Integrative Health and Wellness Nurse Coach, and Advanced Practice Holistic Nurse. She is dedicated to advancing evidence-based pain care and empowering healthcare professionals and patients. Through her private coaching practice, Nursing Beyond the Job, she supports nurses in promoting wellness, preventing burnout, and creating greater fulfillment in their professional lives.
